Artistic Statement

My Goal is to promote American heritage and nostalgia by preserving historical icons and landscapes through original art images.

I began my quest for nostalgia by producing railroad art that highlights vintage steam locomotives surrounded by aesthetically correct landscapes. The subject material is inviting and interesting. Much time is needed to research and create an image that places emphasis on the incredible detail of every mechanical part. These machines were certainly the crowning achievement for industrial strength of the day. Most importantly, the railroads connected our States, which made the expansion to the West possible.

The continuance of a nostalgic theme resulted from my Minnesota background, my family history and my strong devotion to preserve some of the fading images found across our rural American landscape. In addition, I decided to challenge my pencil skills and begin work with color as well as black and white. It was apparent to me that now, more than ever, is the time to promote and restore the rich heritage that was once an interal part of the American way of life. The family farm shared for generations may disappear forever from the countryside, but I can at least help preserve a bit of history by generating images that truly convey the essence of what was once the heart of the generation that built America.

I look forward to my continued research into creating art that represents and preserves historically significant contributions and milestones of our American past. The important connection to someone's heritage or to someplace so familiar brings forth a very personal picture for individuals to reflect upon and appreciate.
